Stewart Valley Sports Ground

Stewart Valley, Saskatchewan is a very tight-knit community. When they lost their school and community centre on August 26, 2022, due to a fire from a lighting strike, they rallied together to create temporary community spaces until the building was rebuilt. The community found opportunities to do this on the school sportsground, which has a small jungle gym, swings, teeter totters, and a daycare facility. 

As funds are raised, the community would like to upgrade the space to include ball diamonds complete with backstops, a basketball court with two nets and equipment, and portable bleachers. They also want to modify the track and field track, long jump runs, and playground equipment. Along with a sprucing up of the space, the community wants to further unite by holding sports days and events, and have areas where everyone can get involved and be active together.

“Since the fire, our kids mental health has struggled, we want to give our green spaces a much needed upgrade so our kids feel safe and secure in a really fun environment.”
