Melfort & District Curling Rink

Melfort, SK

Year after year, the Melfort & District Curling Rink attracts a dedicated and growing number of attendees, with nearly 800 passionate curlers (or newbies) gracing its icy floors. It’s also the only curling rink serving several surrounding rural communities, including St. Brieux, Star City, Ethelton, Gronlid, and James Smith Cree Nation. The facility serves as a venue for a range of gatherings and activities, such as holiday celebrations, fundraisers, and weddings. The community also gives back to other local nonprofits and has a restaurant that operates year-round out of the rink.

Last winter, a 16-year-old curler invited his mom — someone that hadn’t curled in 20 years — to curl with him in a brand-new family-friendly league offered. Fast forward to the end of the season, the pair signed up for a bonspiel, and invited some friends from out-of-town to join their team.

Out of 28 teams that registered, their team were runners-up in the D Event Championship! Their story of how teamwork and perseverance can create champions out of anyone instilled a sense of passion and pride in the sport. Supporting the renovation would enable the community to modernize the facilities, make the rink fully accessible, create a more welcoming environment, and provide enhanced opportunities for all.

“Our community’s connection to our beloved curling rink is unmatched, and our rink has become a cherished hub that brings together curling enthusiasts and community members alike in a truly exceptional way.”
