Little Bluestem’s Peace Garden

For nearly 15 years, the Peace Garden has been shaped by the care and creativity of students, families, staff, and neighbours. For many, it defines this corner of the community—a shady grove on a hot day, a place for nature play, and a quiet refuge in a busy city. It brings people together through learning, gardening, reflection, and celebration.

Deeply valued as a community gathering place, the garden now faces deterioration from years of heavy use and aging infrastructure, making parts of the space inaccessible and unsafe for children. Without renewal, the community risks losing a cherished place for learning, connection, and reflection. Revitalizing the Peace Garden will preserve an important symbol of the school’s transition from Wolseley to Little Bluestem School while creating a safer, more welcoming space for reconciliation, ceremony, gathering, and community connection.

Renewal efforts include accessible seating, rotten garden bed replacement, native prairie planting, and critical surface repairs, improving accessibility and durability.
