Fort Qu’Appelle Library
Fort Qu'Appelle, SK
The Fort Qu’Appelle Library serves a diverse population, including the 2,200 citizens of Fort Qu’Appelle, a vibrant Métis population, five First Nations communities, numerous resort villages, and the surrounding farming community. Each year, the library serves approximately 18,000 patrons. The space offers programs such as children’s story time, an online book club, various crafts, Indigenous cultural projects, tech classes for seniors, movie nights, and knitting/crocheting lessons and groups.
Currently, there is a gravel driveway for the weekly delivery truck and a parking space for the librarian, but the community would like to design the outdoor lot behind the library to increase functionality and use. The plan is to work this empty lot into a viable, sustainable space to allow the library to move activities from indoors to an inviting, practical, environmentally friendly, outdoor space.
Creating an outdoor reading and learning area, raised garden boxes for community use, and an area designated for growing Saskatchewan indigenous plants will help brighten up this community spot.
