Concern for Youth House
North Battleford, SK
Concern for Youth (CFY) moved to their current space in summer 2020 to provide a better location more central to schools, public transit, and communities, and to offer more amenities like staff offices, programming storage, and a greenspace in the yard. However, CFY’s basement is currently unfinished, but has the potential to offer more programming.
When CFY provides programming for older youth, they often have to rent out spaces — particularly for cooking — which is costly. The surrounding community itself also lacks available spaces for youth organizations seeking programming, especially flexible spaces that can grow and evolve with the needs and interests of the people they serve. The community also needed more spaces where youth feel welcomed to hang out with their friends and to be messy, creative, and silly — something the youth themselves requested through their annual Youth Forum.
CFY plans to renovate a portion of their basement to strengthen their partnerships, strengthen their programming, increase opportunities for youth, and better use the space that is available.
