Brokenhead River Regional Library
Beausejour, MB
The library is one of the first places that newcomers to Beausejour & the RM of Brokenhead come to. They provide materials including books, magazines, DVDs, & Wi-fi for free to anyone in the RM. For those outside of it, the library offers a reasonable non-resident membership as well. The weekly Mother Goose program is very well-attended and is a great way for new parents to meet others in the community, at times forging lifelong friendships, and the summer programs offer STEM- based activities to kids. The library is an essential hub in the area, but employees are often told by people that they did not even know a library exists in town, so their goal is to be more visible to anyone driving down the main street.
Because the library is a non-profit, its budget for upgrades is very limited, and a book drop has been nothing but a dream for years now. Funding from Spruce Up Your Story would be huge for the project and community and would help accomplish that dream much quicker than years of fundraising ever could. Upgrades will include new windows, a book drop to replace the one that was set on fire, and updated address and signage to properly identify the building to emergency services and new patrons.
