Assiniboia Fairgrounds Ball Diamonds
Assiniboia, SK
The Fairgrounds Ball Diamonds are a recreation staple in the community of Assiniboia, with the minor ball, men’s hardball, and slo-pitch teams spending countless hours using them each year. There are currently 250 children enrolled in minor ball in Assiniboia, and this year, the community will also welcome midget AAA teams to play at the diamonds. The ball teams host other communities for tournaments and games, so the community wants to provide a space they’re proud of and that’s safe to play on, which will hopefully encourage more youth and adults to play.
There are four diamonds, which are all exposed to all the Saskatchewan elements — wind, drought, and of course, gophers — so repairs are much needed. These diamonds need fence repair, replacement, and sanding; repainting of the dugout plywood; and irrigation of the field.
The community worries that if they do not repair their diamonds now, they won’t be able to sustain the current facilities in the future.
