string(2776) "The Children’s Museum is ready to address its most urgent renewal initiative to improve its exterior: Resodding the anterior community gathering space — a generous, rolling lawn that fronts the building and first greets visitors.
Sadly, this well-loved and well-used greenspace is currently in a sorry state. From urban forests to tall grass prairie preserves, Manitobans pride themselves on their greenspaces. Well-kept lawns clean the air, trap carbon dioxide, reduce erosion from stormwater runoff, improve soil, decrease noise pollution, and reduce temperatures. They support social interaction, unite neighbourhoods, and strengthen the connections within and between communities.
Lawns bring a uniform, natural aesthetic to even the most densely packed cityscape, and the Children’s Museum’s expansive front yard is a key element greeting visitors on arrival — whether here for a family visit, school program, rental, travelling exhibition, or high-attendance signature event such as Mini Nuit Blanche, Halloween Howl, or Top Hats & Tiaras.
Properly maintaining the outdoor living space will also allow the Children’s Museum to protect a significant natural asset at the museum.
After carefully considering site consultations with its preferred lawn installation/maintenance professionals, the Children’s Museum arrived at this improvement project as being the most effective solution to assist Mother Nature, best restore its well-loved front greenspace, and deliver:
5,750 sq. ft of quickly functional, instant lawn.
A resilient grass variety proven to withstand Winnipeg’s harsh climate.
Weed suppression.
Better drainage and soil erosion prevention.
Protection against pests.
Reduced need for irrigation (versus the higher water requirement for seed).
Improved turf and local environment.
The Children’s Museum anticipates that bringing new life to its front lawn will enhance the community by:
Contributing to the quality of “greenspace” / natural surrounding for children, caregivers, and others to engage with at the Children’s Museum and The Forks site.
Providing picnic space, play space, and “free” space.
Significantly increasing comfort in an area that already offers shade and grass.
Delivering free outdoor programming space for current and new partners.
Offering a cooler place for summer recreation (versus asphalt or concrete) and a soft surface that will act as a cushion to reduce potential injuries when in active use.

string(1625) "Core Community Park is in the diverse inner-city community of the Heritage Neighbourhood in Regina, Saskatchewan. This project is set to build a full official 3x3 basketball court in the park, which will include one full court and two side nets. The chosen location is in a large residential area with easy access to the court via residential proximity and public transport.
The existing small courts have not been renovated in 20 years and include broken rims, backboards, and cracked asphalt. Still, this well-loved space is often used by the community.
The Core Park Project will be community-led, and actively engage youth, local leaders, and various Indigenous partner — such as the Newo Yotina Friendship Centre — to create one of the most vibrant basketball courts and community gathering spaces in the country.
Core Community Park’s partnering company, “Buckets and Borders,” is committed to Truth and Reconciliation and working with Indigenous communities. The initiative adheres to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action No.90, which calls for sports policies, programs, and initiatives that are inclusive of Indigenous peoples. Phases of this project focuses on community engagement.
Youth specifically will be given the opportunity to volunteer through court design, help with the grand opening celebration, court surface painting, and more. Youth can also help produce a mini documentary about the space and support content creation about the site.
Not only will this project create a local basketball hub, but a place of pride, joy, and safety for generations to come."

string(2658) "Since 2005, The Bike Dump strives to make cycling and cycling knowledge accessible to all, especially people who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it, by offering access to tools, help, and parts for people to fix their bike or to build one out of recycled frames and parts. There is no charge associated with these services, but donations of bike parts, money, or in-kind labour are encouraged.
The goal of The Bike Dump is to eliminate financial, social, and knowledge barriers that prevent anyone in the community from using a bicycle — whether for work, recreation, grocery shopping, education, or appointments. For many of The Bike Dump’s patrons, their bicycle is their only means of transportation. This program is not meant as a hand-out but a hand-up.
During the pandemic, The Bike Dump temporarily closed, and landlord reduced its operating space by half. When it reopened, this reduced posed a real problem for The Bike Dump, as it meant using every bit of space to try to still provide the same services to its patrons and clients.
The organization reclaims tons of used parts from bicycles that cannot be repaired or refurbished. The collections of parts from wheels, tires, brake handles, handlebars, ball bearings, pedals, crank arms, forks, chains, derailleurs, and more must be sorted and stored in a logical way to access them as required for patron repairs. And that all takes up space.
The Bike Dump’s homemade cabinets and bins are well beyond their useable life. The parts are so heavy that the drawers have fallen apart and many times are unable to be closed, which has also created a safety concern as drawers have the potential to fall out. The replacement of these homemade drawers and cabinets is the biggest priority for the program.
The second priority is to increase lighting. The landlord does not supply any upgrades to the old building space, and the responsibility to provide more light falls on The Bike Dump’s volunteer group. The group has added some individual shop LED lights, but without adding one or more electrical circuits, it would be impossible to add more light.
The Bike Dump is asking for support to purchase four heavy-duty metal drawer cabinets, two open bin storage racks, and install additional lighting:
The new proposed metal cabinets and open bin storage would allow The Bike Dump to organize the parts and remove all the random boxes of parts from the floor.
The Bike Dump is asking for support to increase the electrical circuitry and add additional shop lights in the space.

string(1248) "Winnipegosis is a small, re-awakening community that is home to many low-income families. The town is surrounded by several small rural and First Nations communities who come to Winnipegosis for sports. Last year, Winnipegosis brought back baseball in a community effort, and the town was astonished to see 40 kids register to play minor baseball.
Because many players already rely on subsidies to play, Winnipegosis cannot charge players more money to fundraise for upgrades to its baseball diamonds. While generous community members have offered to help fix a few things, the diamonds currently do not meet safety and Baseball Manitoba standards.
The last game Winnipegosis hosted, the visiting players announced their astonishment at the town’s current diamond that the community was so proud of having improved, and said: "Wow, THIS is their diamond? They must be POOR!”
Meanwhile, the Winnipegosis athletes are so proud of how far they have come and how well they’ve developed their baseball skills. The teams need generous organizations that see the value in investing in the health and mental wellness of their youth.
Winnipegosis will use funding to replace the dugouts and backstops and redo the infield on both diamonds."

It also provides a welcoming space for newcomers to Canada, introducing them to skating, hockey, baseball, and floor curling.
However, the arena canteen requires some improvements. Both the deep fryer and grill are over 25 years old and occasionally malfunction. Additionally, the stove and oven, donated a decade ago by a resident upgrading their appliances, could use an upgrade.
The canteen is a major revenue source for the centre, and that revenue helps cover bills and keeps registration fees affordable. Throughout the year, dedicated volunteers operate the canteen, fostering the ultimate community connection. They take pride in ensuring everyone's needs are met.
The Arborg-Bifrost Recreation Centre would like to:
Purchase and install a new grill, deep fryer, and stove/oven.

Treherne Arena also plays a vital role during the off-season, hosting various community events, including the Town-Wide Garage Sale, Farm Safety Workshops, indoor ball practices, and social gatherings. Beyond its recreational function, the arena serves as a potential relief station for residents during extreme weather events. The proposed improvements will enhance the centre's resilience throughout its remaining lifespan, ensuring it remains accessible for all use scenarios.
Treherne Minor Athletic has been aware of the aging condition of the rink's surrounding boards for the past five years. However, the priority has been addressing the aging and failing ice plant, which required replacement first. The nearly 40-year-old boards have started to bow, crack, and crumble both inside and outside the ice surface.
The rink board upgrade project involves several phases:
Replace the most aging sections of the wall, with work progressing northward until the entire arena surround is upgraded.
Relocate sign advertisements to the north wall, showcasing sponsoring businesses to all users and viewers.
This project aims to enhance Treherne Arena's energy efficiency and sustainability. By avoiding the need to re-flood the ice when wood splinters from the old boards fall onto it, water and energy consumption will be reduced. The new boards will contribute to a safer, more modern, and longer-lasting facility."

Central Park is seeking help with its “Community Recreation Expansion for Healthy Living” project, which involves laying down rubber sidewalks made from recycled tires, installing solar-powered LED lighting for increased safety, and adding upcycled Gazebos for added shade.
Rubber sidewalks provide a resilient, smooth, slip-resistant surface for visitors using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids. Rubber sidewalks also offer a cushioned surface that is more forgiving on the joints and muscles. These sidewalks are also highly durable and resistant to wear and tear. They can withstand exposure to harsh weather conditions, heavy foot traffic, and other environmental factors, resulting in reduced maintenance and long-term cost saving for our community.
By repurposing recycled tires into functional infrastructure, Melita can contribute to resource conservation and waste-reduction efforts, promoting environmental sustainability.
Solar lightening also has many environmental advantages, as it reduces reliance on fossil fuels. Solar lighting is also easy to install, typically has longer lifespans, and requires minimal upkeep — all of which helps reduce maintenance costs over time. Lights on the pathways will also make it safer for visitors to use during the evening and night, as well-lit paths reduce risk of falls, especially for those with mobility issues or visual impairments. This extends the park's usability and encourages outdoor recreation and exercise, contributing to residents physical and mental well-being."

string(1799) "In Ste Rose du Lac, basketball is increasing in popularity, and most members of the community love playing the sport.
However, the town’s only full-sized basketball courts are located the school’s grounds, and they have restricted usage during school daytime hours. The courts are also set up for children younger than Grade 6, so the space is small but also in disrepair. Even more, students in Grades 8 – 12 do not have access to any outdoor space at the school during daytime hours.
Renovating the existing basketball courts would give the older youth a place to go during the day on their breaks and make the space more accessible to all community members.
Project plans include:
Painting the court surface and adding in painted lines.
Installing solar LED lighting, as the course is currently unlit, making it unsafe after dark and limited hours of use. Kids have been bringing flashlights or having parents park cars with headlights shining on the court so they can keep playing.
Adding two player benches on the court surface, giving teams a place to take a break and store their supplies.
Adding accessible spectator benches and tables.
Adding signage.
Completing landscaping.
The Ste Rose du Lac school is expecting that this project will encourage older students to stay near the school, with the hope that when that bell rings, students will head back inside for class rather than leaving at lunch because there’s nothing to do on their breaks.
Many communities already use the court, including Laurier, Ste Rose, Ebb & Flow First Nations, Eddystone, Skownan First Nations, Makinak, Ochre River, Rorketon, and McCreary."

string(1716) "The Saskatchewan Science Centre (SSC) is a non-profit, non-governmental educational organization with the mission of igniting scientific curiosity in Saskatchewan communities through interactive, dynamic, and engaging opportunities. It’s one of Saskatchewan's largest family tourist attractions and welcomes approximately 200,000 visitors every year.
With numerous permanent signature exhibits, regular travelling exhibits, daily stage shows, day camps, outreach programming, birthday parties, an outdoor science park, adult science nights, and other special events, there is something for everyone to be able to experience interactive, informal science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM)-based learning.
The SSC plans to revitalize a currently unused space within the centre, which was once the enclosure for the Science Centre’s Great Horned Owl “Bubo.” (Bubo has since moved to the Saskatoon Forestry Farm where she will be able to live her happiest and healthiest life in a larger outdoor habitat.)
The plan is to transform this space into a quiet, sensory-friendly area where visitors can take a moment to look out the window over Wascana Marsh, bird watch using progressional bird-watching gear, and read locally written and published books that are relevant to Saskatchewan’s location, community, and STEAM-based teachings. Books may also be available in an audio format with headphones for those who are unable to read or are visually impaired.
The SSC wants to ensure this space is accessible and inclusive to all diverse needs and will include multiple sensory-friendly elements such as soft surfaces, enclosed spaces, fibre optic lighting, and sound-proofing materials."

string(1121) "Ritchot Senior Services is dedicated to enhancing the lives of the 55+ community in Ritchot. The centre offers a diverse range of programs and services, from weekly coffee mornings to fitness classes, educational guest speakers, hobby groups, bingo sessions, and monthly outings that foster social interaction and well-being. The centre’s goal is to empower individuals aged 55 and above to maintain their independence and dignity in their own homes for as long as possible.
The centre proposes two essential projects:
First, they plan to perform maintenance on their nearly eight-year-old deck, wheelchair ramp, and garden deck. This includes sanding, staining, board replacement, and minor repairs to enhance safety and extend their lifespan.
Second, they aim to replace their ill-fitting door with a windowed one, improving visibility and reducing congestion. Additionally, they will replace the storm door for better protection and energy efficiency. These improvements prioritize safety and comfort for all users.
Hold support groups for women, youth, children, and men who have experienced or witnessed gender-based violence.
Start a community closet. This project entails transforming Agape’s basement into a client-centred community closet, benefiting its clients facing economic and family violence hardships by providing free access to quality clothing in a welcoming environment.
Address a critical need within Steinbach’s community, ensuring that individuals can allocate their limited resources toward other essential needs, while fostering dignity, confidentiality, and self-confidence through clothing choice.
Hold community presentations to bring further awareness on gender-based violence, community partnership meetings, volunteer trainings and meetings, and interviews.
